There is just so much that is possible for us when we open ourselves up to exploring new possibilities beyond our wildest imagination. So if you’re ready and curious to begin exploring new possibilities, join me every week for a new episode of Provoking Possibilities on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. Let’s dive in. Hi everyone. Welcome to Another week of Subconscious Minds, where we will explore new possibilities for unlocking the potential of your subconscious mind to really just design a life that you really, really love.
Lauren Best (00:01:22) – I am your host, Lauren Best am a certified hypnotherapist and a provoker of possibility. Which means that I just love to ask the right questions, create the right environments for people to just really expand their minds to a place where they can become open to exploring new possibilities for their life. Before we get started today, I just want to take a moment to thank anyone who is joining us for the first time or have joined us before. I really appreciate you and I’m so grateful for you just choosing to show up and spend your time listening to this show and also giving yourself the space to discover something new or even something new about yourself. So welcome. And I’m really excited to talk about uncertainty. Big surprise for those of you who have listened before. I talk a lot about uncertainty in so many different ways, but this topic of uncertainty is something that I really enjoy talking about because uncertainty is a forever and constant thing in our lives. As much as we can plan and take action or manifest and be really specific on what it is that we want in our lives, the universe will always show us that there is so much unexpected to be explored and that even with uncertainty, it can perhaps be a really good thing.
Lauren Best (00:02:48) – It doesn’t have to be this thing that we’re afraid of and it doesn’t have to be this thing that feels yucky. It can be something that really allows us to build more comfort within building more comfort within ourselves, within the trust we can hold within ourselves, and really let go of some of that fear around uncertainty and welcome new opportunities to really just show up in ways that we hadn’t imagined. And what I’ve been learning about myself is. As I’ve been on this journey of building comfort within this idea of uncertainty and it being this constant thing that is always going to show up in the world and in my life, I’ve found it really, really helpful to begin introducing different rituals and practices throughout my day. I’ve always been a rituals person, but I haven’t been very consistent. I think I have a lot of tools that I enjoy, but they’re not necessarily things that I do every single day. So I have a really exciting one to talk about. We’ll get into that. But, you know, thinking about how rituals and daily consistent practices in my life can really brought in the capacity that I hold and have this influence over the capacity that I can have within my life to deal with that unexpected.
Lauren Best (00:04:09) – I’ve been making, you know, just a point to to look at what does feel good and even the things that might not. At first I’ve been experimenting with, you know, how can I show up in a way for this, you know, wellness practice that might look different from yesterday, but I’m still showing up for myself. So that’s been a really big, important thing for me to really transform how I feel in my body and how I feel within my mind and my mindset and just feel good for the better. So today I really want to dig into how I’ve been managing the ebbs and flows of my health because surprise, surprise, I ended up in emergency in the emergency room the end of February with a really giant kidney stone, which still is with me, I suspect. But it really, you know, turned a lot of things on. Their heads in terms of my business and my health. So I want to talk a little bit about, you know, what managing those ebbs and flows of my health have looked like while also expanding my business.
Lauren Best (00:05:15) – And again, those wellness practices and rituals that have been really implementing to support myself, to expand my health, but also my money mindset to receive more money and invite more money into my business. And I want to talk about the ways you can also reposition your thoughts to see what might be perceived as a roadblock. Instead, see it as an opportunity to transform. Transform your life, transform your business for the better instead. So I want to start with this question asking this question, and just I’m going to pause for a very brief second, brief, brief moment, but I want you to take a minute here to just really think about when was the last time that you felt things just weren’t going your way? Maybe it was just before this podcast listening to this. Maybe it was this morning. Yesterday. Last night. Last week. I’m not sure. Whenever it was just take a second to acknowledge this thing. The last time that you felt things just were not going your way. And we’re going to revisit that, But I’ll just leave that there for a moment.
Lauren Best (00:06:31) – Acknowledge that thing, as I mentioned. My kidney stone. I’m going to get to that, too. But that was something that I just felt like, oh my goodness, how is this happening? Like, this is going to ripple effect into all these crazy things that I just, like, don’t want for my life. So this month or the month of February, rather, has been a whirlwind of starting new things for me, stopping other things. And in that last week of February, I was super excited to celebrate that. I completed a 40 day super kriya Kundalini yoga practice and I had experience Kundalini yoga previously. I don’t know how many years ago. I mean, think I would have done it two years ago with my mom. My mom does it really consistently. So over the years I have dropped into different, you know, workshops with her, some of which I really enjoyed. Others, I felt like, Whoa, this is too much energy surrounding me. I didn’t really know how to manage my own energy or how I would receive the energy of other people.
Lauren Best (00:07:40) – So in a practice like that, I just felt like I needed to be in my own aura and I found it really disruptive. So it was never a practice. This Kundalini yoga practice was never something that I really prioritize into my life. But I joined this program. I completed a 40 day. Soba kriya, kundalini practice, which is the practice of evoking the wealth of the universe. Totally like something I’ve never done before. Totally different from what I’m used to. You know, it has so many overlaps to hypnosis or, you know, it is such a powerful tool for working with your subconscious mind. But I really can’t remember the last thing that would have shown up for consistently for 40 days straight. So this is a big thing for me and it looked different every day. Some days I was like having my arms up in the air, doing all the moves while I listen to the music. Other days it was like. I’m going to close my eyes. I’m going to imagine myself doing this practice within my mind, which was really cool because it brought me back to these fundamentals of, you know, of hypnosis and connecting to your subconscious mind and the power of visualization.
Lauren Best (00:08:57) – So I think that also brought a lot of strength to this practice for me. And knowing that this is my perhaps first time ever committing to something very consistently for 40 days, I really realized that not only seeing this through to completion was an achievement in itself, but it has done, you know, just so much more for me than the original intent, which was to break the negative. Many stories that have been blocking me from receiving more money in my business. And I’ve done a lot of work on this, you know, with hypnosis. But think where I want to encourage people to try different things outside of their consistent practices or, you know, some of the tools that you already use is to switch things up a little bit. It can be really, really useful to try things differently, to get creative and get out of your box a little bit. You can find so many similarities and comfort within trying different things that you wouldn’t expect as well. Like I shared with the overlap that I really experienced with, you know, honing in on my visualization practice, um, by, you know, doing things differently within a completely new practice I’ve never done before.
Lauren Best (00:10:17) – So, you know, achieving this has really shown me that if I believe in something enough, even if I cannot see it and maybe it hasn’t confirmed it for me, it reinforce it for me because I’ve already experienced this doing hypnosis. And perhaps you know, many of you, whether you’ve done meditations or, you know, experience miraculous things in your life or seen miraculous things in your life, you know, sometimes there’s no explanation for things. And this is another thing that that really showed me that if I believe in something enough, even if I cannot see it, it is more than possible for me to show up for myself. And this is the key here. It’s more than possible for me to show up for myself, not show up for this thing. I’m doing this for me. And it might have started out as like in order to reap all the benefits of this, I need to show up for 40 days. But it was like I got to create that space for me and it can be as easy as an 18 minute a day practice, which is what the Christian Delaney practice was doing every day was 18 minutes a day.
Lauren Best (00:11:27) – You know, you can listen. I have so many hypnosis tracks actually on Insight Timer or reflective guiding audios on Insight Timer. A few on YouTube now, but check those out like those are a few minutes a day. You can if you do one or if you have any other like app or, you know, YouTube is great for just having so many resources. If you can show up for something two minutes a day, try it for 40 days and just see what happens. See how you feel, see how your confidence shifts, See how your mindset shifts in terms of just seeing things more positively and differently and showing yourself that you can persevere. And it doesn’t have to be hard. It can be super easy. So I’m going to leave that there in terms of that, you know, just encouragement to do so. Another thing that I want to chat a bit about, two in extension of what I was trying to do with the this Kundalini practice was. You know, evoke the wealth of the universe to bring more money into my business.
Lauren Best (00:12:39) – So another thing I did was I decided, okay, look, my schedule. So for anyone who is a business owner or, you know, has a side business, really. Take a look. I really encourage you to take a look at. Your calendar. For me when I started my business, a really important thing was that I’m not working 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I want a spacious calendar to go out in the middle of my day to meet people up for a cup of tea and go for a walk and go to the farmer’s market and just have this fluidity in my schedule to be able to do the things that I love to get out, move my body, to have the afternoon to just lie on the couch, whatever it may be. So I. And went, I think from different points in my business from schedules of like complete openness to then being like, this is chaotic, I need some consistency. How do I do that to limiting working with certain clients or having certain activities on certain days, which I think still is so, so important.
Lauren Best (00:13:52) – But I found myself and it wasn’t until I looked back at my calendar that I realized that I was really constricting some of the time that I made myself accessible to people, people being clients, paying clients specifically. And I was encouraged by a mentor of mine to to really look, you know, where can I create more space for people to pay me? And that seems like a really simple question, but sometimes, like didn’t really didn’t realize that I was cutting myself off to more of those opportunities just by looking for the freedom that I wanted. I could can I not still have the freedom that I want and also create more space for people to pay me so that I can have more money to enjoy the things that I love. So I really went into my schedule and right away I opened up. Another day in my calendar and within a few hours. Two clients booked in right away for the next day. Just thought, oh my goodness. Like, thank you. Thank you. Thank you, universe.
Lauren Best (00:14:58) – Thank you, calendar. Thank you, clients, whatever it may be. And I just made even more space for my clients that month and I saw my calendar fill up faster than ever before. And if you’re interested to ever book a private session with me, you can also do so. You can visit my website. Lauren Bascombe. But this is something that I really only would have dreamed about a year ago. And I found myself on holiday actually over in San Francisco. If you have never been, it’s like I think my one of my favorite cities in the US now. I just loved it, loved it, loved it. But a year ago I’d only dreamed of, you know, getting back out into the world, traveling, being nomadic, working wherever I am. And I was really. Just I had to pinch myself. Like here I was, traveling to a new place, visiting friends and, you know, having time to explore, but also still, like looking at my calendar like, okay, I can open up these times in the morning before the day really gets started and I can make some money, I can support other people and then I can go about my day.
Lauren Best (00:16:14) – So that was a really cool expansion that I did see within my month. Just by allowing myself that space to open up more space for people to work with me. And with that, there was a lot of adventure. As I mentioned, I was exploring San Francisco and right now my home base is in the middle of the desert. I have been hanging out in Coachella Valley in California, and something I really did let slip this month was hydrating adequately and. You know, this is even more important when your current home base or wherever you are is in the middle of the desert. I think we don’t realize this. I’m going to take a sip of my water right now. Actually, this is a reminder to hydrate. You should hydrate. Have a sip of water. Um, but. Yeah, it can be really annoying when you’re like out in an adventure or like have back-to-back meetings and you’re like, I don’t want to keep running to the bathroom, but like, seriously, like hydrating is so important and is way more important than getting to your meeting, like, exactly on time or making that lunch reservation.
Lauren Best (00:17:25) – Exactly on time. Like you, your body is so much more important. And I think, you know, I just really did let that slip. And I think. There was. A really great foreshadowing photo that I that I am captured of the beginning of my trip, which was me on the airplane. I don’t know if anyone seen those really cute, um, boxed waters that are in that the cartoons. So I remember getting on the airplane to San Francisco and being like this the cutest box of water. I took a picture with it. I loved it. And it was like, now I look back and I just laugh because I’m like, okay, maybe that was the universe telling me what I needed more of before my body had to, because really, there’s nothing that will stop you right in your tracks. Quite like having a kidney stone. I’ve had them before. It’s been a long, long time. But you know someone who has never given birth think it is proven to be one of those things that is just as intense and painful.
Lauren Best (00:18:36) – And so I found myself at the end of my San Francisco trip. I came back to the desert, had a few days here with my friend who was visiting, and then ended up in such excruciating pain and ended up at the emergency room, went for a CT scan. And I just had this feeling because I’ve experienced it before. It has been like 11, 12 years since I had a kidney stone. But I just thought, Oh no, this is it. Like, I know it and I know it’s because I haven’t been hydrating. And it was like, Oh my gosh. So then this was the thing that kind of put me into the spiral. It wasn’t the pain. Yes, the pain was there. I can handle that. The kidney stone like it’s here. It’s here. There’s nothing I can do about it now. It was like, what’s going to happen next? It’s like I immediately thought, Oh, no, I’m going to have to cancel my meetings with clients that I’m really excited to work with or I’ll have to go back to Canada because now my insurance isn’t going to be covered.
Lauren Best (00:19:38) – And there was like this ripple of worries, so many worries. That was just like. So stress when I could have been relaxing and should have been relaxing. It was like this anxiety and all these stresses coming at me and. You know, I shared this with my different communities, my friends, and was like, this is what’s happening. And yes, my health like is the most important thing, but this means this, this, this might happen. And one of my mentors said to me like. You know, perhaps this is an opportunity. For transformation, expansion for greater things to happen than what you would imagine. Maybe this is the time for new possibilities. And I’m like, I know this. Like I tell people this every day. This is the work that I do. I believe this, but why am I not, you know, taking this advice to myself? Why is my first instinct to spiral out of the things that I really had wanted for myself to thinking about these possibilities that I actually don’t want or worrying about having control over the situation.
Lauren Best (00:20:49) – So. Again, even with the things that we practice or help other people practice, it’s so important to give those reminders back to yourself because, you know, perhaps the universe has something even better in store for us. And sometimes we do need that reminder. You know, if I continue to make feeling good a priority, perhaps there are things. Even more amazing that will happen for me. And, you know, some of my options were, okay, if I can’t get my insurance sorted out, I will have to head back to Canada. Yes, it’s freezing and it’s winter. And you know. But I can see my sister, I can see my friends and all these things in the end. Very anti-climatic ending. Well, actually, no, it’s exciting. It is exciting. I was able to get a new insurance policy to be able to stay in the US till the end of the month and sorry to the end of April, not just the month. Um, and you know, things worked out for me.
Lauren Best (00:22:02) – Things worked out for me in the way that they were meant to. And if they would have worked a different way, they would have, you know, meant to work out in that way too. That’s fine. But, you know, we can tell the universe what we want sometimes, and sometimes the universe will just tell us what we need instead. So just a reminder to you, if you’re feeling like the universe is, you know, doesn’t have your back or you feel like things are not going your way. Everything will work out. I promise you, everything will work out. Maybe not in the way that you expected, but it will work out. So that question asked you at the beginning of the podcast, which was, you know, when was the last time you felt things just weren’t going your way? You’ve acknowledged it. And I invite you now with this thing. To just think about, you know, what would be possible for you. You know what? If something even better is in store for me, if you just continue to make feeling good a priority, what could be possible for you? If you choose to see something that feels like a roadblock as an opportunity for transformation instead? And when I say an opportunity for transformation instead, I really mean this idea of, you know, transitioning through.
Lauren Best (00:23:28) – What we. Might be manifesting or putting out into the world. But also expanding beyond those ideas, expanding into bigger things, like I mentioned, even just with my income last month. I don’t think it was like the end all be all for like impacting my health. Think it was the choice I made to neglect drinking water, for instance. I think, you know, now I’ve shown myself that I can hydrate adequately. I can still get to my meetings on time or a minute late, and that’s okay. And, you know, we can have both, but our health is just so, so important. Um, and it can allow you to get creative when you really prioritize feeling good, whether it’s physically, mentally, emotionally. There’s just so much more that can fall into place, so much more transformation that can be had. So, you know, if you are struggling to see something. That seems to be not working out in your life. And are really struggling to see where there is an opportunity to grow.
Lauren Best (00:24:40) – Just take a moment to really check in and it’s like, what is the next best thing? What can allow me to just feel really good right now? And you know, you don’t need to know all of the answers. You don’t need to know how things are going to work out. You don’t need to know the how or the even the why sometimes and just really, you know, find that strength and that those opportunities to look inward, to create consistency, whether it is a small practice every day in terms of, you know. Journaling or listening to one of my hypnosis audios or maybe some on your own practices you already have, and maybe it’s a ritual around water. Now, I have a very I’ve always been a special glass kind of girl where I have like really fun hand-blown beautiful glasses that I like to use for water or different drinks have all different types. I’m a big tea person. I have different tea cups for different things. But. I thought, okay, in order to hydrate in the way that I need to right now, I need to like uplevel a little bit.
Lauren Best (00:25:47) – So it gave me that opportunity to say, okay, I need like a basically like big cup of water, like a big gulp almost with a straw. And I can drink that really fast. I can fill it up and I can just let it be this thing that is, you know, constantly, um, you know, I can take around the house with me, whatever it may be. It’s easy to take in the car, whatever it is. So just adapting, finding those opportunities to adapt what it is you already know, to really, like, suit you in the moment of what is going to allow you to feel good and what’s going to support you to feel good. And knowing that there can be little milestones or rituals throughout your day that you can. Begin to pinpoint that will allow you to take space for the things that will make you feel good. So I hope this resonates with you. I hope you don’t have a kidney stone, so I hope it doesn’t resonate in that way.
Lauren Best (00:26:44) – But I just really would love to hear if anyone has any stories to tell in terms of, you know, different possibilities that have been showing up for you in light of opportunities for transformation, you can always reach out to me.
